  • Import of computers, printers be allowed if cartridges allowed to be manufactured and refilled in India: MRP base GST necessary

on May 27, 17 • in Daily_News, National, RIGHTS, RTI Activist • with No Comments

Under the ambitious Make-In-India programme, central government should take necessary steps to impose some guidelines for import of computers and printers. Presently printers are sold at comparatively throw-away prices as compared with abnormally high cost of ink-cartridges in these printers. Sizes and shapes of cartridges of all laser printers are almost same, but are with different specifications so that each printer may require different type of cartridge. Chips are there in cartridges to prevent much-much economical re-filling. Warranty-conditions of printers are terminated on use of re-filled cartridges. India being a strong consumer-base, is in a

  • Effective remedy for compliance of section 4(1)(b) of RTI Act

on May 26, 17 • in Daily_News, National, RTI Activist • with No Comments

It is indeed regretting that even after more than a decade has passed ever since RTI Act was implemented in the country, compliance of section 4(1)(b) of RTI Act regarding sue-motto disclosure of information on websites of public-authorities is very poor. Data in a book authored by a Central Information Commissioners reveals that number of RTI applications can be down by 50-percent by ensuring proper compliance of section 4(1)(b) of RTI Act.  Main practical aspect on non-compliance of section 4(1)(b) of RTI Act is its complicity requiring too much variety of information to be put

  • Doordarshan should share ‘Jaane ka Haque’ with other TV channels

on May 26, 17 • in Daily_News, National, RTI Activist • with No Comments

Popular Doordarshan programme ‘Jaane ka Haque’ based on RTI stories and discussions is perhaps the only TV programme in the country which educates and popularises ‘Right-To-Information Act’ in the country. Doordarshan authorities should share this programme with other TV channels including even private ones in larger interest of people, like has already been done when Doordarshan has been a partner for simultaneous telecast of some TV programmes produced and aired by private producers primarily for some private channel. It is often seen that ‘Jaane ka Haque’ presently becoming the usual casualty at time of election-season

    ghosh ka jawab RTI

It refers to Union Cabinet giving nod for amending section 138 of the Negotiable Instrument Act whereby it will be possible to file cases on cheque-bouncing at places of presentation of cheques for clearing. It became necessary after Supreme Court ruling that such cases could be filed only at places from where cheques were issued putting defaulter at advantage to the victim. But the Bill to amend the Act should incorporate some more features to make it user-friendly, fast-disposing and separating cases of cheques issued for payment of Equated Monthly Installments (EMIs) from other cases

  • Suicide at Jantar Mantar

on May 14, 15 • in Magazine Issues, RTI Activist • with No Comments

Considering whole aspect and background of Gajender Singh having allegedly committed suicide at AAP-party’s rally at Jantar Mantar (New Delhi) on 22.04.2015 with different probes ordered separately by Delhi Government and Delhi Police, it will be in fairness of things that a judicial enquiry may be ordered by Supreme Court or Delhi High Court. In matters where state and Union governments are ruled by different political parties, it is quite usual that probe-panels ordered by governments usually give findings according to requirements of political rulers having appointed these, like happened in infamous Godra train-burning episode

  • Political apology of Ashutosh (AAP) not enough on suicide at party’s farmer’s rally

on May 14, 15 • in Magazine Issues, RTI Activist • with No Comments

AAP’s leader Ashutosh broke all records of insensitivity through his untimely comments on farmer’s suicide at party’s farmers’ rally held at Jantar Mantar (New Delhi) on 22.04.2015. Even subsequent political apology by Ashutosh was in no way sufficient for the party because his earlier comments exhibited his usual mindset and arrogance. Party in its own interest should make a damage-control by officially sending Ashutosh for at least six-month leave from party’s affairs at all levels. Such a step will also make Ashutosh and other leaders of new-gen political party behave and talk with responsibility. Since

  • Tackling drug-problem amongst Punjab youth

on May 14, 15 • in Magazine Issues, RTI Activist • with No Comments

It is a common knowledge that Punjab is presently facing its biggest threat when Pakistan has been instrumental to make Punjab youth drug-addicted, so that the bordering Indian state may no longer have a dedicated youth-force to rise to occasion at need of hour like war-time. Brave Punjabi youth were amongst the main factors of India winning Indo-Pak wars in the years 1965 and 1971. Lack of proper employment opportunities has also resulted in large-scale migration of Punjabi youth to other countries. Sikhs by nature is a warrior-community, and thus constitute a major portion in

  • Ending outdated colonial laws: Relevance of Revenue Stamps?

on May 14, 15 • in Magazine Issues, RTI Activist • with No Comments

Union government has rightly taken up review of all laws of British era to end those colonial laws which have of no relevance now. Already self-attested affidavits are set to replace old tradition of getting these attested by gazetted officers. Revenue-stamp is required for receipts of amounts over a specified limit which is now rupees 5000 even though payment is made through banks. This is also a useless colonial practice which needs to be altogether abolished. Rather signed receipts become useless in case gumming of revenue-stamps is not proper, because major portion of signature vanishes
