Union and Delhi Finance Minister agree on bringing petrol under GST: All BJP-ruled states should have common rates
In a rare coincidence Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and Delhi Finance Minister Manish Sisodia were together amongst those at GST council who favoured petrol, diesel and real estate to be brought under GST for uniform pricing all over the country. But unfortunately much-needed reform could not be there because of resistance by some states which did not want to lose their authority to tax petrol and diesel according to their own wish against public-interest.
Best way to practically compel resisting states for the systematic reform is that all states ruled by BJP and its allies apart from other states like Delhi favouring petrol, diesel and real estate under GST may join hands to have common VAT-rates for these commodities which may be amongst rates fixed under GST-regime to have uniform pricing for petroleum products in majority of states favouring petrol, diesel and real estate being brought under GST. Then public-pressure will force other states also to favour GST to be applicable on products which are not presently under GST for a uniform price-structure throughout the country for these commodities also.
